Questions you always wanted to ask about therapy
1) WHAT CAN THERAPY DO FOR ME?
Anyone can benefit from therapy at some point in their life. Therapy is not just for mental health issues like anxiety, depression, grief, OCD. It is also a good place for you if you are looking for direction to help you work through difficult situations.
2) DO I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THINGS I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT?
Your therapy session is your time and space and you can talk to your therapist about any issue that you need help with. You have a confidential space to help find clarity and get the tools you need to feel better.
3) WHAT IF I DON’T CONNECT WITH MY THERAPIST?
I always check with my client at the end of a session to see if they found the session helpful and I always give clients the opportunity to express what is helpful and what may not be helpful. This allows for a collaborative therapy session which is important to built a trusting client - therapist relationship.
4) WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN LOOKING FOR A THERAPIST
You can either ask your doctor to refer you to a reputable therapist or you can look on the internet. If you go to the IACP website you can search for an accredited therapist in your area and it will give you some idea about the therapist’s background. Ensure your therapist is accredited with a professional regulatory body, ie the IACP, and check out their qualifications.
Look at the therapist’s website.
